1.) Shri.Krishna Yesso Phaldesai, Balli, Quepem Goa for KRISHI BHUSHAN.

Shri. Krishna Yesso Phaldesai, Balli, Quepem- Goa, has been in farming since long past with total area of 7.28 ha. The major crops grown by the farmer are Paddy in terraced land, Coconut, Arecanut with banana and Black Pepper in the midland situation and cashew on hilly area. The entire farming activities are integrated with Dairy unit and a Biogas plant. Main features of this applicant include adoption of High Yielding Varieties in Paddy (Jyoti and Karjat-3) and Vegetables like Chilly and fodder maize in paddy fallows. Adoption of farm mechanisation is evident with the use of tractor, Powertiller, Spray pumps, Weed cutting machines etc., for optimising the labour input, besides involving youth family members in the farming activities. With regards to Dairy unit, the farmer has adopted Crossbred cows. The paddy straw, fodder Maize are used as fodder for dairy cows. Farm yard manure and cow dung slurry from the biogas unit are recycled back into the farm for crop production.

Productivity of all the crops grown by the farmers is found satisfactory and the farmer is marketing the produce himself using the market intelligence.

However, the committee observed that there was scope for further adoption of some technologies like Drip irrigation system for plantation crops and introduction of tree spices (Nutmeg and Cinnamon) as intercrop in Coconut Garden.

2.) Shri.Bartholomeu Miranda, Nuvem, Salcete-Goa. for KRISHI VIBHUSHAN.

Shri. Bartholomeu Miranda, Nuvem, Salcete - Goa. has the total area of 7.73 ha being used for crop production activities. Shri. Miranda is a devoted farmer with keen interest in promoting and continuing farming with adoption of various new technologies. Special features include adoption of high yielding varieties of Rice(Jaya, Korgut) and SRI technology; Rice based cropping system with commercial vegetables and innovative vegetable nursery practices involving entrepreneurship initiatives adopted by him; Local Onion seed Production (an activity indicating local germplasm conservation) the nursery of Sweet Potato cutting. Paddy straw is recycled for Oyster mushroom cultivation. Back yard poultry is also adopted with breed “Giriraj”.

The farmer also has cashew cultivation and Feni making as an important economic entrepreneurship.

He has motivated his children, one of which has completed her graduation in the field of Agricultural sciences and is actively involved in farming activities.

Besides above, farmer also has got three Buffaloes as part of his integrated farming system (IFS). Use of Tractor, Powertiller, Powersprayers, Cashew apple juice extractor etc. indicated the adoption of farm mechanisation for saving labour input.

All the bunds surrounding the paddy fields have been effectively used for cultivation of Coconuts.

The Productivity of each farm component was observed to be very good with excellent profitable farm returns, especially by doing value addition in Rice.

The farmer has been taking advantage of various schemes promoted by the Directorate of Agriculture.

3.) Shri. Vinod Gopal Barve, Satode, Sattari-Goa for KRISHI RATNA.

Shri. Vinod Gopal Barve is a young and enthusiastic farmer, evincing a total satisfaction in the farming activities which was very evident in his total involvement in farming and excellent farm returns with high level profits. He has total farm area of about 33 Ha. Which is diversified into Coconut, Arecanut with Banana and Black Pepper as intercrops. The cashew also has been a major cash crop of the system. The farm is vibrantly integrated with Dairy unit for milk production and more particularly for recycling farm yard manure and biogas slurry into the farm. Arecanut husk is also effectively recycled into the farm for mulching purpose..

The following significant features indicated the innovativeness of the farmer and contributed to enhance the productivity of the farm and farm income.

a) Farm processing entrepreneurship: Arecanut dehusking unit is well established in the farm unit for primary processing of Arecanut.

b) Large sale drying of Arecanut is adopted by using indigenous innovative technology of his own.

c) He also has established an automatic unit for manufacturing plates, cups etc., from Arecanut leaf sheath which is an important Agro based entrepreneurship. The waste generated from this unit is used for incorporating in livestock feed, thereby reducing the feed cost.

d) He has established Automatic cashew processing unit (300 kgs per batch) by taking the benefit of Prime Minister’s “Stand up India” scheme. His family members are also involved in this entrepreneurship.

e) He is applying Biogas dung slurry blended with “Jeevamrut” and Trichoderma to the whole farm.

f) He has established Black Pepper nursery through rapid multiplication techniques and multiplying the Black Pepper on Quick Wilt disease resistant root stock (C.colubrinum).

g) He has shown the scope for generating excellent employment opportunities round the year with full logistic support free of cost.

h) He has devised his own marketing strategies through market intelligence to derive maximum profits for his farm produce(Fresh and Processed)

i) Very unique feature of this farmer is the maintenance of the meticulous farm records namely the production of each unit, cost for inputs and labour which reflected sound farm economics.

Awards for the Year 2015-2016

1. Shri. Prasad Purso Velip, Welwada Poinginim for Krishi Ratna Award.

Shri Velip of 40 years of age and is cultivating crops like Paddy, Sugarcane, Vegetables besides Coconut Mango, Arecanut ,Cashew etc. He has cultivated Ginger on an area of 2 ha in very systematic manner and two Ha of area under chilly cultivation with plastic mulching and drip irrigation. He has cultivated Sugarcane on an area of 3 ha with sustainable sugarcane initiative method and drip irrigation system. The farmer has also adopted new technology in coconut by cultivating Hybrid coconut seedlings. Vegetable cultivation is done by the farmer on a large scale. Presently 2 ha of area is under chilly variety of Syngenta 1900. Bhendi crop have been harvested as of now which was on 2 ha approximately. The farmer have also a Jalkund for storage of water. The importance of organic farming have been practised by the farmer since he has a Vermicompost unit.

2. Shri. Vithal Khandeparkar, Usgalimol, Pirla, Quepem, Goa for Krishi Vibhushan Award.

The farmer Shri Khandeparkar is 70 years old and has cultivation of Coconut, Arecanut, Banana, Pineapple , Black pepper, Cardamom, Cinnamon and also Sugarcane intercropped with Bhendi, Turmeric etc. The farmer has drip irrigation for Arecanut plantation. Cowdung slurry is used for Arecanut based crops which is a part of organic farming. Shri Khandeparkar is having dairy which becomes the part of integrated farming. For energy saving Biogas is installed. coffee processing unit ,chaff cutter are other machinery the farmer is having. He has developed his farm as Agro tourism unit wherein many tourist visit. With the integration of various activities he has converted his farm into a sustainable unit.

3. Shri. Laxmikant Dhond – Velge, Sakhali- Goa for Krishi Bhushan Award.

The farmer is having area of 0.62 Ha and additional area of 0.5 is under Paddy. The farmer is hard working and is putting all his efforts in the farming business. He has cultivation of Black Pepper in Arecanut, uses vermicompost for his Arecanut Garden and also produces the same. The farm is clean and in good condition. The farmer uses all the good package of practices. Coconut cultivation is also there wherein the yield is maximum with the help of organic manures. Sprinkler irrigation is also there which saves water. The main point to be considered is that he is maintaining his farm in the middle of mining activity.

1. Shri Shashikant Bhat Tengse, Usgalimol, Pirla.Quepem for Krishi Ratna Award.

Shri Shashikant Bhat Tengse is 63 years old and is resident of Usgalimol, Pirla, Quepem Goa. He has studied upto 11th Std. and he is in Agriculture profession as full time farmer and entire family is dependent on Agriculture. He is cultivating 3.5 Ha. Area and it is mostly covered under horticultural crops and Sugarcane. He cultivates coconut, areca nut, banana, cashew, Black Paper & pineapple. He is also having 6 cross breed Cows and eight Buffaloes he is having good infrastructure like well, pump set, sprinkler etc. He has adopted integrated approach in farming and maintains a dairy to support his activities. He is getting 50 lts of milk per day. The farmer also has adopted organic farming technology on his farm. He has constructed a biogas plant, which meets the cooking needs of his family. The devotion of this farmer to agriculture and his efforts to generate income from available resources is appreciated. He is producing good fodder and also has verrnicompost unit.

He has maintained the orchard nicely. He is recycling the organic waste such as arecanut and coconut leaves. His farm is a good example of intercropping.

He is a innovative farmer. He is using Biogas slurry from Margao for his . Sugarcane and arecanut plantation. He is using modem Technology such as milking machine on his farm.

He and his family members carry out most of the works on the farm and occasionally employing hired labourers. He is earning more Rs 16 Lakhs income from his orchard which is possible only by adopting modem technology and efficient management.

His efforts are worth appreciating by awarding him Krishi Ratna.

2. Shri. Vasudev Pandurang Pai, Khawat, Poinguinim, Canacona Goa

Shri. Vasudev Pandurang Pai is 43 Yrs old. He is a outstanding progressive farmer of Canacona Taluka. The farm of this farmer is unique. He has adopted integrated system of agriculture.

He is a leading agriculturist cultivating wide range of varieties of crops. After completion of M. Com. & MBA, he has decided to start agriculture with his family and now he is in Agriculture profession as a full time farmer. He is an innovative farmer and practicing modern methods of agriculture activities. He cultivates 3.5 Hectares of area in which he is growing Cashew nut,: Coconut, Vegetables, Pineapple, Arecanut, Mango, Banana, Gladioli, & Marigold crops. He has grown black pepper as intercrop on arecanut. He has also cultivated okra as intercrop in pineapple. He is using machinery to carry out most of his agricultural activities with tractor etc. He has created good infrastructure in his agriculture property for cultivation with well, water pumps, Sprinkler irrigation system, etc. He is irrigating most of his crops by Sprinkler and Drip irrigation system on an area of 3.0 ha. The entire farm has been systematically integrated to generate high returns to make the agriculture activities more profitable. He is also having a small Rice Mill and Flour Mill. I His efforts in agriculture are worth appreciating as he has used modem i techniques in agriculture such as tractor, herbicides, sprinkler and drip i irrigation system etc. He has a quest for improved technology and hence he I will be adopting drip irrigation for pineapple and gladioli. He is adopting diversified farming by taking black pepper and okra as intercrop in arecanut and pineapple. He has maintained his farm in very good condition. He is having good marketing skills and therefore he is earning Rs 11 lakhs from the , farm. He is a model for agriculture development for the state, therefore he may be awarded second prize. His efforts are worth appreciating by awarding him Krishi Vibhushan.

2. Shri Shripati Shridhar Sawaikar, Murge, Aglota, Sacorda, Dharbandora

Shri Shripati Shridhar Sawaikar is 58 years old and he is a well educated progressive farmer. He has B. Com. Degree. His all family members are full time agriculturist.

He is having 5.39 Ha of land in Murge Village. He is adopting all package of practices for his plantation of Coconut, Areacanut in multi storied farm recommended by Agriculture Department. He also visits to the universities research stations, agriculture department, ICAR Goa etc for advice and guidance. Other than coconut and arecanut he has plantation of Banana on large scale. He has adopted sprinkler irrigation system on his entire farm.

He is having large scale production of arecanut, black pepper and banana. He is using all recommendations on his farin given by the Department of Agriculture.

He is having 10 Cows and Biogas plant and he is using the biogas slurry for his plantation crops. He is also having and utilizing different farm implements and machinery like grass cutter, spray pump, arecanut peeling machine etc.

His total income generated is Rs. 7.0 lakhs. The entire family including his younger son is also helping him. Therefore his name is recommended for i Krishi Bhushan award.

FATHER INACIO ALMEIDA ANNUAL AWARD - 2014 -15

Shri. Manguesh Ladu Gawas, Nawarwada Pali, Bicholi Goa, is a • progressive fanner adopting organic farming on his entire farm. He is 42 yrs : old and he has completed 12 std.

His farm area is 0.48 Ha. Area under Arecanut and banana. In addition he : has planted cashew nut on an area of 0.18 Ha. He is adopting innovative package on his organic farm. Every year he is collecting the dried leaves and other organic material washed down from the river (River wash) nearby and dumping it in the large pits in his farm. He also uses green leaf manure and dung for mixing in the river wash.

The areca plants as well as cashewnut trees are well maintained with the . organic package of practices. He has shown that organic farming can be successfully adopted for areca nut and cashew nut. He has set good example of , organic farming.

Therefore the Father Inacio Almeida annual award for the year 2014-15 may be given to Shri Manguesh Ladu Gawas, Nawarwada Pali, Bicholim Goa.

1. Shri Sanjay Anant Patil, Savoi - Verem, Ponda - Goa for Krishi Ratna award

Shri Sanjay Anant Patil is 49 years old and is resident of Shilwada Savoi - Verem, Ponda - Goa. He has studied upto 11 th Std. and he is in Agriculture profession as full time farmer and entire family is dependent on Agriculture. He owns 3.64 Ha of area and is mostly covered under horticultural crops. He cultivates coconut, arecanut, banana, cashew & pineapple. He has created systematic infrastructure for cultivation with terraces, well, pumpset, drip, sprinkler etc. He has adopted integrated approach in farming and maintains a small dairy to support his activities. The farmer also has adopted organic farming technology on his farm. He has constructed a biogas plant by using ferroplast cement technology, which meets the cooking needs of the family. The devotion of this farmer to agriculture and his efforts to generate income from available resources is appreciated.

He has maintained the orchard nicely. He is recycling the organic waste such as arecanut and coconut leaves for mulching arecanut and Coconut palms. His farm is a good example of intercropping. Though the farm is located on the steep slope, the productivity is very good.

He is a innovative farmer. He has evolved simple techniques for operating the water pumps from his house by using by using nylon rope. Similarly he has evolved a simple mechanism of switching off the pump when the water level goes below the foot valve of the pump. He has constructed a water tank of more than 100 cum in which he collects the stream water. For water harvesting he has dug 2 horizontal tunnels of 30 M over the storage tank. He has installed 2 pumps of 5 HP capacity through which he is irrigating his entire orchard by adopting drip irrigation.

He is employing soil and water conservation measure in conserving soil and water by terracing and mulching on steep slope. He has planted crops like pineapple on slope to prevent surface runoff. He and his wife are carrying out most of the work on the farm and occasionally employing hired labourers. He is earning more than Rs 4 Lakhs income from his orchard which is possible only by adopting modem technology and efficient management.

His efforts are worth appreciating by awarding him Krishi Ratna

2. A)Harshad Shrikant Prabhudessai, Netravalilor Krishi Vibhushan B) Rajaram Yeshwant Mavalankar, Mopa

The farms of these two farmers are also unique. Both the farmers have adopted integrated system of agriculture, therefore it is proposed that Krishi Vibhushan be shared among these two farmers.

A) Shri. Harshad Shrikant Prabhudessai Margawada r/o Netravali, Sanguem Goa is 49 Years old .He is a outstanding progressive farmer of Sanguem Taluka. He is a leading agriculturist cultivating wide range of varieties of crops. After completion of ITI in electronics, he has decided to start agriculture with his family and now he is in Agriculture profession as a full time farmer. He is an innovative farmer and practicing modem methods of agriculture activities. He cultivates 13 Hectares of area in which he is growing Sugarcane, Vegetables, Pineapple, Coconut, Arecanut, Mango, Banana, Colocasia and Cashew crops. He is also having a small dairy farm and has constructed a biogass to support his family kitchen. He cultivates green fodder on an area of 1 Ha. He is using machinery to carry out most of his agricultural activities. He has created infrastructure in his agriculture property for cultivation with well, water pumps, Sprinkler irrigation system, etc. He is irrigating most of his crops by Sprinkler irrigation system on an area of 10 ha. He is using tractor mounted sprayer for spraying pesticides. The entire farm has been systematically integrated to generate high returns to make the agriculture activities more profitable.

He has also got reward from Goa Govt., for producing highest milk in the year 1996.Sanjivani Sugar factory and Goa Bagayatdar Society has also awarded him as best farmer in the year 1978 and 2008 respectively. His efforts in agriculture are worth appreciating as he has used modem techniques in agriculture such as tractor, herbicides, sprinkler irrigation etc. he has a quest for improved technology and hence he will be adopting drip irrigation for sugarcane from the coming season. He is adopting diversified farming by taking sugarcane and pinapple as intercrop in coconut and banana. He has maintained his farm in very good condition. He is having good marketing skills and therefore he is earning net returns of Rs 15 lakhs from the farm. He is a model for agriculture development for the state, therefore he may be awarded second prize shared with Shri Rajaram Yeshwant Mavalankar.

B) Shri Rajaram Yeshwant Mavalankar, Kadshi Mopa Pernem

Shri. Rajaram Yeshwant Mavalankar is 61 years old and he is a well educated progressive farmer. His three sons have completed a Graduation in Veterinary, fisheries and Diploma in Agriculture respectively. All family members are full time agriculturist.

He has purchased 8 Ha of land in Mopa Village only from the agricultural income. He is adopting all packages of practices of Cashew as recommended by the agricultural department. He also visits to the Universities, research Stations, Agriculture Department" ICAR, Goa etc. for the advice and guidance.

Other than cashew, he has plantation of Coconut trees, Mango trees, Areacanut, Cocum, Nutmeg, Pepper, Vanilla as intercrop in coconut, and many other plants.

Shri. Mavalankar has selected, propagated and planted one Cashew variety and named it as Ml(Bhato), the size of the nut is bigger (Less than 100 Nuts per Kg) apple size is big. The cashew kernel of M1 is very tasty with ivory white color. He has also identified and selected another cashew variety i.e. M2. He has constructed a drying yard for cashewnuts and godown for storing the produce. He has also made one special mechanized cashew apple crusher, where the apples after crushing moves on a conveyer belt and are collected at a distant place for squeezing, this reduces labour requirement in lifting the material. He has developed road Network in the cashew orchard, which facilitates him for spraying the plants with a utility vehicle mounted with a tank and power sprayer. The Cashew apples are collected in trays and are transported by Tata 207 DI vehicle, which reduces the labor cost. He is having a Cashew Processing Unit. He has a small poultry unit of around 15-20 birds. He is a major producer of URAK feni in north Goa. His net income is more than 18 lakhs and he is employing more than 25 people. His entrepreneurship is worth appreciating.

3.Shri Krishnaprasad Gadgil Khodye Sattari Goa. For Krishi Bhushan

Shri Krishnaprasad Gadgil , 45 years old, r/o Khodye, Sattari- Goa has been working in the field of Agriculture since his Childhood. He has completed his graduation (B A). He owns 8 ha of land fully protected by modern power fencing giving protection to crops from wild animals effectively. He has adopted multilevel cropping system to utilize natural resource like soil, water & air. Arecanut/ Coconut stems are used as stakes for black pepper along with banana & Nutmeg. Commercial crop of Sugarcane is being cultivated with subsurface drip irrigation system. He obtained yield of 162 tonnes per hectare of sugarcane with adoption of new technology as well as saving water, electric energy, fertilizer, weedicide, irrigation cost etc. He overcomes manpower shortage in novel way by venturing into innovative automation of the drip system which enables timely & precise application of water soluble fertilizer & micronutrients as per recommendation and requirement.

He maximizes Basmati paddy yields by following System of Rice Intensification (SRI).Basmati fetches him more income. He grows crops like cashew (V4), vegetables. Grows intercrops of turmeric & Colocasia.

Shri Gadgil has various modern machineries for agricultural work like mini tractor, weed cutter, power sprayer, Battery operated knapsack sprayers, tipping trolley & installed cashew apple crushing machine, Sprinkler system in areca nut garden . He owns biogas unit & cowshed. He recycles farm waste by producing vermi-compost and the same is utilized in his farm, enables him to get higher yields. He is devoted fully in the field of agriculture and has been putting his full efforts to develop the same. His efforts were recognized and were awarded with Taluka level award for his excellence in Agriculture in year 2009-10. He is positive towards agriculture & maximizes farm income through integration of farm activities up to direct marketing of vegetables and other farm produce.

His net income from agriculture is Rs 6.50 lakhs per year. He is adopting modern techniques to improve the crop yield and net returns. He is an enthusiastic young farmer

Awards for the Year 2012-2013

1. Shri Kamlakant Murari Tendulkar, Ponda for Krishi Ratna

This farmer has 13.78 ha of land. The full family is involved specially in horticultural crops. The farmer used modern mechanical tools ver~ effectively to support his occupation. The agriculture activity is integrated with dairy, vermi composting, primary processing of white pepper, arecanut, and has adopted soil conservation measures also. This farmer was also best farmer at taluka level in the year 2009-10. He is also a innovative farmer and had adopted drip irrigation, sprinkler system, use of micro nutrients to crops, bio control agents, etc, and it is a case worth emulating by other farmers.

2. Shri Manohar S Nhanji, Pemem for Krishi Vibhushan

The farmer has 8 hectares of lateritic and hilly area at Pernem which has been developed into a very good plantation of cashew and mango. The most neglected type of terrain has been developed into a very productive farm with annual income of more than Rs. 1.00 lakh per ha. The farmer also planted forest timber species and taken full care to increase his productivity from available area. His efforts need to be adopted by other for promotion of agriculture as a viable and economic activity and is therefore recommended for Krishi Vibhushan award.

3. A) Shri Raghunath Narayan Velguenkar, Ponda B) Smt Sita Rama Velip, Sanguem for Krishi Bhushan (shared)

The above two farmers are selected to be the best farmers at their taluka level. The farms of these two farmers are also unique. Both the farmers have adopted integrated system of agriculture with dairying and therefore it is proposed that Krishi Bhushan be shared among these two farmers.

A) Smt Sita Rama Velip has taken up agriculture in remote area of Nune, Netravali and is managing the entire family affairs by herself as her husband has given up agriculture activities. The farmer belong to ST community and with all odds is managing the farm most economically and is therefore considered for Krishi Bhushan award (shared).

B) Shri Raghunath Velguenkar of Nirankal Ponda, has taken up horticulture cultivation, rubber cultivation, dairy farming, mechanized system for agricultural operations, vermi composting and own cashew processing unit. The entire activity is integrated to make it most viable agricultural system and is therefore proposed to be consideration for emulation by other farmers. It is therefore proposed that Krishi Bhushan award be shared with Smt Sita Rama Velip of Netravali.

Scheme of State Agricultural Awards

      Government of Goa had introduced State Agriculture Awards (SAA) for outstanding agriculturist of Goa.

Eligibility and selection for award:

   1. The applicant should be fulltime resident of Goa and fulltime farmer.

    2. Applicant should be totally dependent on agriculture as his main source of income.

   3. Applicant should integrate various agriculture activities to generate maximum income from his available land.

   4. Applicant should exhibit originality in his agricultural venture.

   5. Applicant should have minimum of 1 Ha area of his own or inherited or on long lease.

   6. Applicant should not be recipient of State Krishi Award in the past.

   7. Companies, institutions or any organization will not be eligible for awards.

   The criteria for selection for award shall be based on the following parameter.

  1) Integration of various actrvitres in agriculture and allied Sector to tap maximum out put from available sources on farm.

  2) Innovative methods adopted by farmer which could be replicated by other farmers.

  3) Potential for influencing other farmer for higher yield and productivity.

  4) Originality in venture undertaken.

  5) Record of farm accounts, yield & expenditure.

  6) Exploration of new method for marketing and value addition of agriculture produce, etc.

  7) Demonstration on Agriculture/Horticulture ventures as economically viable activity.

Pattern of Assistance for State Agriculture Award:

      The Krishi Ratna shall be considered as the lifetime achievement award and awarded to the Best Farmer of the State while Krishi Vibhushan and Krishi Bhushan shall be awarded to the 2nd best and 3rd best respectively.

The awards shall be presented to the outstanding farmer of Goa which would include Cash Award and Citation as below:

1. Krishi Ratna ------- Rs. 2.00 lakhs

2. Krishi Vibhushan ------- Rs. 1.00 lakhs

3. Krishi Bhushan ------- Rs. 0.50 lakhs

4. Father Inacio Almeida Annual Award ------- Rs. 0.50 lakhs

The miscellaneous expenditure towards award ceremony, presentation of citation, certificate bouquets, travel cost of recipient etc. shall be borne by the Government.
